Yes, we're still alive
ByJanuary 6th, 2003
It's been quite some time since either of us has posted anything. No "Merry Christmas wishes" or "Happy New Years". Willow is out of the country, but I have a load of worthless excuses... Be prepared:
Work was really busy during Christmas, and I was never in a good enough mood to post anything worth reading (have we even done that yet?). I had to do a lot of driving for the holidays and spent little time on the computer. The time I did spend was on something unrelated to the site. I do have a recipe coming up for some awesome chicken pizza, but I must say that the chicken alone would be just as yummy. I'll try to get it up soon, but it's not my recipe and I can't remember the ingredients for the marinade.
Don't worry loyal readers, Willow will be back in a couple of days to fill your screen with more useless rambling. Be patient.

Reality sets in
By Mike DalyJanuary 8th, 2003
Well, I have finally returned from my holiday adventures, and ... well, ... I don't really have anything new to say. I was thinking of writing another reflection on modern classics concerning final fantasy, but that's a lot of work and I have two new games to play, so don't expect it anytime soon. Other than that, the IGDA had another meeting last night. It was great. Um... I'm bored of writing, piss off.

The physics of slack
By Mike DalyJanuary 13th, 2003
As some of you may have noted, I had a very stressful end of the semester a little while ago. Right after that, I went on one continuous vacation that was densely packed with activities. Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome vacation, but I didn't get any rest or relaxation. Then I got back in the country, got back in town, went to a meeting, and classes were already upon me the next day.
Then I had a four day weekend. This was my first real chance to relax in probably over a month. I was very relaxed. Too relaxed. I knew I had homework and other stuff to do, but I was too relaxed to care. I ended up not doing my homework (sue me), in addition to not doing anything else, updating this webpage included. So my theory is that lack of a force of tension (slack) has inertia. Once it gets moving (err, not moving?), it doesn't stop until sufficient force is applied to it. Well, I can say that for now, I have delayed my slackness just enough to write a sizeable amount of update to this page!
God what a waste of time writing that was! It's not even meaningfull. I can't imagine how you feel. Ha ha, the sadism of wasting your time makes me feel like it was all worth it after all.
On one last note, I will try to get some more articles out your way soon. I'm debating whether to write my opinions on Final Fantasy as a Reflection on modern classics, or just an extremely cynical game review.
go on, piss off.

The monkeys are coming!
By Mike DalyJanuary 16th, 2003
This semester's schedule seems to be pretty slack, which is a radical change from last, one which was desperately needed. Anyway, because of that, hopefully I will find time to do some cool webpage stuff.
The first of these things I found myself doing was creating a little icon for the webpage. I wanted it to be curvy, but getting photoshop to cooperate was a pain, so I ended up scanning the sketch I did in class and using it. Unfortunately, it turned out a little rough. I will have to re-work that later. If I can get my hands on 3D Studio Max any time soon, I will create a nifty intro logo animation. Cool, huh?
In other news, because of my free time, I am trying to play with all the stuff I got for christmas, like my drafting table for drawing, Splinter Cell, Onimusha (I got that one for myself), and Unreal Tournament 2003. I was hoping to develop some stuff for UT, but the editor refuses to work on my computer. Additionally, I don't have 3D Studio Max, so I can't work on character models or static meshes either.

Finally Finished Final Fantasy (phew!)
By Mike DalyJanuary 22nd, 2003
Well, at least for the first week or so of my new slacker schedule, I have put my time to good use. I wrote an all new Reflection on Modern Classics, and additionally created a comic to accompany it. You may be pleased to view it here
On another note, as soon as my brother accepts an alias, I'm going to make him an e-mail address from this address, and he has expressed interest in contributing to the page some. What this means for me is that I get to create a new comic character for him, yay!
In other news, Wayne finally got around to writing his own article: a game review of the very classic Rareware title Donkey Kong Country. Good job. And on one final note, I am a slacker.

Reluctant return to reflecting on ridiculous rubbish!
By Mike DalyJanuary 26th, 2003
I'd just to take a moment to complain about how hard it is to write an article on Final Fantasy that is legible and, more difficult, free of many vulgar obseneties. It's kind of like saying something ridiculously funny while keeping a strait face - it's tough. I hope you appreciate how much mental effort I go through to bring you articles that give the impression that i'm jovially looking back at my past mistakes and laughing at them, as opposed to revealing my true burning black heart concerning the subject. Whining like that is what the rest of the internet is for. Although most of you probably already know how full of hatred I already am anyway.
Anyway, in an amazing feat of self-control I have created another intellectually crisp and refreshing reflection on modern classics concerning nothing other than the infamous Final Fantasy VIII ... again. I may actually return a third time because I have not even gotten the horse to proverbial 'critical condition' by my repeated beatings. Anyway, enjoy my pointless ramblings about something history will eventually forget anyway.
By the way, I should have it's comic done soon as well.

Return to glory
By Mike DalyJanuary 27th, 2003
Well, after much trial and tribulation, I have finally gotten my black, wirey, tentacle-like, fingers on a copy of 3D Studio Max. When it rains, it pours. The version I got happened to be 5, and coincidentally, I got it from 3 independant sources all in the same day. My friends finally got it, and gave me a burned disc, I finally finished downloading it on kazaa (took like a week), and I found where Jody had put it in his shared files.
Anyway, I was going to work on the comic for final fantasy VIII, or work on my little movie-project, but I had to see if I still had it as far as max was concerned. When I started out, I was kind of intimidated because I couldn't think of an easy way to get done what I was thinking of doing. But after I started popping primitives on there, it all came back to me. Yes, the magic has returned, and now I can create anything imaginable (assuming unimaginable timespan). I made a couple quick models for my kick-booty mimesis class, and imported them into the UT 2003 engine.
I made a couple screenshots of what they look like in-game on a computer with VERY Crappy video settings. Additionally, I didn't bother making a texture for the lamp, so it looks like a big block of raw aluminum right now. Anyway, check these out if you are bored. If you take a look at the weapon, you can see how bad the video settings are, so don't take it out on me.
So now you know my excuse for taking longer getting the next comic up, but at least I gave you something to look at. I'll try to do some work tommorow... really, I will!
*edit* I made this post at 4 in the morning last night, so it counts as today, so I'm changing it's date to yesterday so todays post can be at the top. Now piss off.

Trials and Tribulations
By Mike DalyJanuary 28th, 2003
I got home today at 6:45 pm. I am supposed to get off of work at 5:00 pm. In case you didn't notice, there is a slight descrepancy here. Suprisingly enough, only about 77% of this tardyness is due to the CAT bus.
While I was at work, I was asked to stay after to help because the night shift employees were almost all in a meeting. I did thid thinking that I would get off in time to catch the 5:25 CAT bus, but as fate had it, I was released almost exactly at 5:25. Knowing that I had to get my stuff out of the office, I figured that I didn't want to rely on the CAT bus being late, so I might as well take my time and get a chance to chat with my coworkers. I head over to the bus stop at 5:45 because the next bus stop was scheduled for 5:55 and I didn't want to miss it.
It was raining, by the way. So I waited and waited and waited and waited and waited. I'm not sure if the bus ever came and the next one was a couple minutes early or if the bus was actually 25 minutes late. Either way, I was very frustrated. After a slow drive through traffic, and a short walk through the rain to get to my house, I finally had arrived home. At 6:45, in case you've forgotten. I was supposed to get off of work at 5:00.
I just felt like sharing that with you guys, but now it has made me grumpy. Piss off.

the internet makes you stupid
By Mike DalyJanuary 29th, 2003
Well, it's 6:37 am right now and I haven't really gotten any sleep, but I'm not really tired. This sort of unfortunate scenario happens when I have a) homework and b) anything at all else to do (including but not limited to staring at the wall, and watching the carpet peel). This means that I will do ANYTHING else short of inflicting massive self injury to put off doing homework. This could be a good thing because it might motivate me to draw or play with my nifty computer programs like photoshop or 3d studio max, but in this case it hasn't. Especially no thanks to Jake, I came across some crazy site that has a bunch of flash stuff to watch. I especially enjoyed the e-mail section. Additionally, I recently came across another crazy site! Which also has cool flash stuffs. I said that I would work more on stuff that I could post online, but I suck, so I haven't. I guess instead, I can post up a picture I did like 1000 years ago (well 3 years ago if you are carbon-dating (no, wait carbon dating is innacurate at small time intervals fool!), I mean computer dating websites (no fool! you are making it worse!), I mean I don't have ANY dates! (doh! bad Mike... I mean Willow! damn damn), i mean ... 3 ... years)
Yeah so anyway... Here it is. It's like really old though. I did it with max back when I was in high school. Now you have a pretty picture to look at, piss off.
Damn, but if I finish this post, I will be absolutely out of things to do. I wonder if anyone has sent me e-mail since 4 am? Hold on, I'll check.
...
Well, I got 26 in the junk mail folder. At least somebody cares enough to dump all their crap on me.
