It's not my fault

So Willow and I had this crazy idea to do some stop-motion animation with this wooden doll he picked up somewhere. It was going to be great! We went through an hour of positioning, taking dozens of photos. Then, it happend. FILE NOT FOUND!!! WHAT! Why not!? The camera said ding ding dammit! Apparently you have to have the camera in the right mode. Thanks a lot Mr. Let-us-borrow-the-camera-guy. Why does your camera have to suck so much? It's ok. Don't beat yourself up, I'll do it later.

A possible storyboard (though I must reassure you it is highly unlikely) was donated by the camera guy. I won't tell you the dialouge, but if you can guess the story the author promises you a box of cookies. Post your most educated guess(es) here. Here is Frame One, Frame Two, and Frame Three.

I will tell you that this weekend Willow and I are going on a road trip and the camera is going with us. It should promise a fun video, especially since we'll be super bored on a 12 hour drive. And once we get the stop-motion thing working it should be neat too.

Oh yeah, write this down: 2 * 150 watt lightbulbs + 300 watt power supply = HOT ROOM.

Fun Fun Fun

By

Willow and I almost had more fun than we could handle this weekend. After arriving at Lake Chatuge (at 4:15 am) we of course went to sleep, but the next morning the fun began. Tubing and wakeboarding from behind a new boat, jumping the enormous wake from the aforementioned boat with jet skis, and darting on and off road with dual sports.

I'll have to say that all that fun can do a number on your back. And your shoulders. And your legs. Come to think of it my entire body hurts. Especially after riding in a car for the past 7 hours. The trip home took longer than usual due to July 4th traffic and some people who had to stop and look at wrecks on the other side of the interstate. We were backed up for an hour at less than 10 miles per hour, sometimes stopped, because of this.

Even we get bored on trips that long, so we played the state game: see how many different license plates you can spot from start to finish. We saw 28 states including our own driving from Lake Chatuge (on the border of NC and GA) to Raleigh.

Anyway, this is all we have for today. There are more pictures from the weekend but it might take a while to get them. We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. By the way, don't forget what those fireworks represent.

Not much for today, but we do have a short video of some of Willow's mad skillz. The hand was modeled and animated in 3D Studio Max. It's for holding a "weapon" in the sunburn project we've been mentioning over the past couple of weeks.

Willow speaking now, Wayne doesn't really know what to say, and saying as he helped me out with my updates, I'm takin' over this one.

So yes, that is my hand model, and I'm getting paid to make that for 'academic' purposes. Isn't my job great? In fact, although not as humorous as the other, I think I'll make a movie of my other recent model for project sunburn.

Making movie ...

Done! That was easy. Athough probably less interesting, this is the Sand Crab I made for the same job. In case you were curious, those were both compressed with the divx codec. This lets them bee itty-bitty little files, which is good for us. If you don't have the divx codec, you can download it from www.divx.com

Well, I think that satisfies the content requirement for a post even for the likes of Wayne, so I'm going to hit it. Peace out, see you friday.

By the way, something really cool happens 2 weeks from today. BE READY!

Hey guys! I know we've been sticking to this whole Monday/Wednesday/Friday format, but I have something to say that I felt like posting RIGHT NOW, so just bear with me a minute, it'll be short.

I HATE sleep! I hate it. I don't ever want to go to sleep again. It's 5 am, my whole body is tired, it's begging me to go to sleep. Everybody else has gone to sleep, there is nobody to play with. But I HATE SLEEPING! I don't want to do it EVER again.

Looks like a case of the mondays

For yet another weekend, I managed to get my sleeping cycle turned on it's head in just 2 days. Waking up at 4pm then having to go to sleep again so you can wake up at 6:30 am the next day is not as easy as it sounds.

Despite all that, I've been playing with some pretty cool stuff this weekend. If you could wade through the gibberish of friday's post, you could have found out that I created a character model for use with Unreal Tournament. Currently, I'm only done with the modeling phase, so I still have texturing, animating, and importing to go.

Before I got started on that, though, I figured I'd play with the head that I'd modeled and tweak it to come up with a few variations, and make them high-res. This is the result: my characters. After this, I decided to make a movie out of my favorite of the five. Allow me to introduce Xavier, my virtual person, created from scratch.

That's what I've been up to. Wayne also managed to do his fair share of work. Of course his work was setting up a new surround sound system. We both spent the night organizing the mess of cables in the living room and putting all of our game stuff in some sort of reasonably organized order. This is the result.

Anyway, that's the sort of fun stuff we've been up to. Hopefully I'll get this model done soon, when I do, you'll know it. See you Friday.

Whoops

By

I almost forgot to update. Usually it's done between midnight and 5 am. I got up this morning and realized I'd forgotten.

Anyway, I posted some pictures of my new cousin, Cooper, and some of my family, which can be found in my gallery. The dogs are named Hannah (the bigger, whiter collie), Zack (the smaller, darker collie), and Riley (the short golden dog with no feet).

I don't have time right now to record the movie from the video camera, but later today I'll post Willow's disection of a watermelon.

Until then, be sure to check out this little game I've got going on in the message boards. Read this thread and join in. Make plenty of guesses and you can catch up with Wesley and Wastrel. If they are still way off by the time I post the movie I'll drop more hints.

Have a great day!

Looks like he's good for more than just webpages after all

Howdy folks. This friday, I have a nice treat for you. Wayne has put us together a nice little movie for you to watch. It depicts the proper procedure for a surgical operation on a watermellon. May I present:

Like a Surgeon

I hope you are as entertained as we were while making it. While Wayne was busy editing that little film, I was busy at work as well. As I have mentioned I have a job doing some game art, and I have managed to come up with a couple new tidbits i can post.

First off, I'm going to show a couple of the level, which is finally making it's way to presentable mode: shot 1, shot 2, shot 3, and shot 4. Also, as you may have noticed in one of the above, I created a custom character model for the game. You can see him in action in one of the normal UT levels here, and here.

Well, I guess that'll be all for now. Come back monday because I'm sure I will not have anything to write about and will post a funny link instead.

New Projects

By
July 20th, 2003

We have decided to start a couple of new projects here lately.

Number 1: A mod for UT 2003 We can't tell you much about this mod right now because we're still early in the planning stages, but here's the gist of it so far...

So you're this guy who's dreaming and he's on some quest in this dream but its not like real life at all. It's going to be wierd. There are giant mushrooms to jump around on and giant trees with those big flappy fungus things that grow around the trunk so you can climb and stuff. Here are a couple more screenshots of the mushroom we threw in a UT level. See a view from atop the mushroom (with the rocket launcher in hand, of course) and underneath it with a bot running around to give an idea of how giant they actually are.

Number 2: Top Secret I can't say anything about this project except that we think it will be really funny and will probably inevitably attract more hits than we could ever afford.

I guess thats it. Oh well, its a lot more than most college students do in the summer.

If you get hungry sometime in the near future try out the Steak Stir Fry or the Hawaiian Chicken. Both we're pretty good and a lot less greasy than the Gumby's Pizza we had tonight.

See you Wednesday, and the Cookie contest ends Wednesday too! (around midnight Tues night / Wed Morning)

I hate computers

By Mike Daly
July 22nd, 2003

I really do. You wouldn't believe how much computer crap I've had to go through in the past 24 hours, everything I try to do hits a wall due to a computer malfunction be it game design, training movies, or fixing critical computer malfunctions.

I don't suppose that really has any relevance to anyone, I just thought I would let you know. Maybe I should write a rant on the crappiness of computers soon. The real relevance of this update however is to serve two purposes: First, to point out that I have added a new picture gallery entitled Humor. Why don't you all take a look, there is some funny stuff there.

Secondly, and mainly, I'd like everyone to wish Wayne a happy 21st birthday! Our little fellow has finally come of age, and you should all join his celebration. It will be at, uh ... I don't know. I'm not going, so it doesn't really matter to me, why would I care? But everyone else should go.

BYE!

The aftermath

By
July 24th, 2003

Thanks for all who came out with me to celebrate my birthday. And thanks also to those who wanted to come, but couldn't for one reason or another.

With all the celebrating going on, we haven't had too much time to give you a fun way to end the week. Sorry, but you'll have to head over to Homestar's or something in the meantime.

Willow forgot to end my little cookie contest the other day so I'll finish it up here. Wesley is the undisputed champion and has 10 days to claim his prize. ah hahahaha. You should have read the fine print sucker!

For those of you not aware, Wesley is in Japan until mid-August.

Anyway, here is the original "artwork" provided by one of our readers. I give you, Warren's Story.

One more thing, I added Moore's Chicken to the cookbook. It's quick and easy.

Have a good weekend folks!

All alone

By Mike Daly
July 27th, 2003

Hey guys. Wayne is out of town on vacation all this next week, which basically means that I will be doing all the updates. At the same time, nobody will be here to remind me to update, which means I might be at work Monday morning, sitting at the info desk and realize that I should update but not have any idea what to show or talk about.

Entirely hypothetical situation, of course.

Right, sooo ...

uhh, don't forget to read your Strongbad e-mail for today. Peace out.
