And we're back.

By
September 7th, 2003

Man I almost forgot how to update! It's been so long I bet you folks won't even visit today. It won't matter much though, because I'm not going to do much other than tell you a few things. I think there are a few recipies to add for Wednesday though. Maybe a rant or two. I should write one about how much I hate doing homework, which I managed to avoid all weekend even though I had plenty of time and plenty of homework.

For those of you that don't know about the movie rental thing, just ignore it. Or maybe you're supposed to know, just not yet. Anyway, the site is taking shape, but there's A LOT of work to be done. You can check it out at movies.duelingmonkeys.com/atoz.php. Please don't add any movies, but even if you do, I'll just delete them when I'm ready to release the site. When that time comes, you'll have to register and log in to see anything worth seeing. I'm waiting on the IMDB to email me back with permission to use their info. I might have to buy a license, but I'm not trying to make a profit, so I shouldn't have to.

Today for lunch we went to the Bear Rock Cafe. It was excellent. I highly recommend you go sometime soon. The one in Cary is across the way from Best Buy at Crossroads. The prices for a really good sandwich are less than $6 which includes a bag of chips, pretzels, or fruit. You can also substitute a loaded baked potato for $1.50 or a salad for $1 more. The bread they use really makes it worth the visit. And they have free wireless internet conncetions if you have a laptop and need to do some work during lunch.

So it's hurricane season and there are a few little storms headed our way. If any of them aren't too serious but still make a lot of wind and rain, let's have a party. It'll be fun. We can make hurricane's, or course, and act like we don't have anything else to do. Of course the last thing I want is anyone's house to wash away or someone to get injured or killed, but as long as none of that happens lets go have fun with it.

Once again, I apologize for the long delay in updates. I have a lot to do this semester and websites is not at the top of my priority list (even though I make a few minutes for it somehow).

Have a happy Monday!

Its just one of those days

By Wastrel
September 9th, 2003

Look in the sky... its a bird... its a plane.... wait acutally there's nothing there just some clouds (maybe). That's right turn your head down, a little to the left, and back up... yeah.. ummm that's it! There on a couch, or laying in a field, or maybe on a sofa... sitting doing nothing and looking like a bum. Yeap that's right its Wastrel Monkey!!! (Applausometer shoots off the scale)

Cuz well I'm not superman and I'm a wastrel, seriously, this means you will have to deal with this update being unorganized and well contentless. But then again I learned from the master himself Willow and therefore you are all (that's right count it three of you I know I'm giving us way too much credit here) already used to it. This is why I am doing this update instead of homework and staying up 'till the wee (that's right wee) hours of the morning for nothing getting no sleep. Did I already mention I learned from the best. So yes...Uh oh here he starts again.... "Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays!"

So the point of this post is to say I just watched Office Space for the umptillienth time, and it was GREAT!! It has been a while since I enjoyed this movie to this extreme. I declare it should receive an all-time great award, something like a lifetime achievement award. Movies with this award will for sure be on the top of the movie exchange list. In the meantime I suggest you guys check out a site to fullfill the void and add some 'flair' to your hump day.

Peace out,

Time

By Mike Daly
September 14th, 2003

Time sucks. I have no time. If I wasn't burdened with the unavoidable obstacle of everyone else's solar circadian cycles I would live through at least 36 hour days. As it stands I have to constantly put up with 4 hours of sleep just because the idiot that designed daytime didn't make it big enough.

Sorry I've been so busy recently that I haven't updated a lot. I am a little busy, but not so much that I can't write a little rant for you: I present Time. Someday I'll have some cool new art to show you. Also, I'm spending a lot of time on project sunburn, so some new screenshots might trickle into the game dev gallery over the next while.

Thats all, I'm hittin' it.

Not a day passes

By Mike Daly
September 16th, 2003

that I'm not able to remind myself of my incorrigible stupidity. For example, Monday night I stayed up too late (specifically all night and the next day) procrastinating from my homework, as I am prone to do. Just last night, I had the brilliance to top that by doing it again. Of course tonight, I didn't even have pressing homework, I stayed up all night simply because I'm irresponsible.

I just realized that I have to eat breakfast fast if I want to catch the crappy CAT bus, so I'm going to have to bring this little update to a close quickly.

Basically, what's going on in my life is now I live with 3 other people instead of one. When you would think this would make it easier to update the page regularly becuase you have more people who want to do it, this is not the case. Actually, we are all more prone to expect someone else to do it now that there are four of us, and updating becomes more difficult. Since I'm limited on time, I can't bring any reasonable meaning to this post.

At least you know I'm alive.

And the award goes to ...

By Mike Daly
September 18th, 2003

Wastrel. Congratulations, on your remembering to post today. More specifically, forgetting to post today within five minutes of when you said you would. It takes a lot.

Wastrel breaks in:
To my defense Willow is a poop head. So there!!! =P
Well I did kind of forget, but what I really forgot was the site to actually put the post up. Although it is quite simple, its the simple things in life that we take for granted (i.e. FORGET). And therefore your beloved post comes in a whopping 13 hours late (although technically I would have posted at 3am so therefore only 10 hours late).
Now enough excuses back to Willows lame post! --->

On the bright side, at least any peoples out there are learning a little more about your personality.

In conclusion, I like Smash Brothers, and I'm pretty good at it too. We should have some sort of tournament.

Wastrel Saves the Day yet again
To add some actually content to this post and have some cool stuff for you guys I found some pictures up from the ice storm that were in bad format and now are good and visible under the miscellaneous section (I could have posted each pic, but sorry thats where my 'personality/identity/name/insert your slash word here' comes in).

On another note about a month ago we three monkeys went to the lake, celebrating both Willow's Birthday and Labor Day, while Wayne was down in South Carolina, and some of the resulting movies are quite funny, neat, and cool. Also here is me and Willow trying to Land on the tube. If you average our tries we would have definetly succeeded. But Willow went too far and I came up a little short!.

So enjoy your weekends, signing off

There's a reason you have to be 21 to drink...

By
September 21st, 2003

It's because you can't afford to go out until you're at least 23, so they only give you 2 years to go into serious debt.

This weekend was the big celebration of Wastrel and Willow's 21st birthdays. First we went to Rum Runners (and paid a $5 cover I might add) to hang out with old people. It wasn't a total loss, but I think I'll wait a decade before making it a frequent visit.

Then we headed to Pantana Bob's, but the line was 50 people long, it was already crowded inside, and it was getting late. So, we walked across the street to East Village, a much younger crowd than downtown. And much cheaper I might add; I can't afford to pay $5 to get in and then $3.50 for a beer.

Anyway, I won't spill all the beans because Wastrel might want to have a little dignity, but I will post this picture out of the few we took. And of course, following two movies. Sorry for the huge file size, crappy quality, no sound; and most of all Quicktime, but what can you expect from a camera made for snapshots, not video.

Here is Wastrel attempting to drink a flaming shot (the flame is blue, so it's hard to see, but I'm sure you can tell how hot it is from his reaction). This second video shows the color of the flame to let you know how hot it was. I think this stuff is more potent than gasoline.

That's all for tonight, I have to get a decent night of sleep to get rid of this cold. No time for sleep the rest of the week because I have 3 tests, a presentation due next Monday, and tons of work since Isabel messed up the power Thursday night (I was at work 5 long hours Friday night, it sucked).

Maybe Wastrel can post the recipe for his yummy pasta dish we had tonight. I'll make him put it up for Wednesday.

Wesley writes again!!!

By Wesley
September 23rd, 2003

Well, i've been absent from the update scene for a while so i thought i'd pop back in to remind you all that i am still alive. i only have one thing of interest for you today. here is Wayne being manly! (and Willow being girly) there is no shortage of entertainment in this house.

ok, so actually the reason this update sucks is because i have no idea what i'm doing. everybody already went to bed, leaving me to do the update all by myself! i don't know anything about this stuff. lets hope i did it all right so they don't call me names tomorrow. see you all next month! (the next time i'll probably get around to doing the update, assuming they even let me do it at all.)

ps: battlefield earth is not my favorite movie (although it was funny. damn funny).

Times past

By Mike Daly
September 25th, 2003

Whilst browsing our site earlier this week, I randomly went back and read the updates from an earlier month (specifically, April, 2003) and noticed a significant difference in how I approached the site.

I seemed so much happier then, I was genuinely enthusiastic about updating, I had interesting things to say, and I always seemed to be working on something neat that I could post.

Nowadays, all the stuff I sink my time into isn't stuff that I can post. It's not stuff I necessarily enjoy doing, either, which is quite depressing. But, complaints aside, I did get to do a little modeling recently, so I've come up with some screenshots of my latest partially-complete character model.

Keep in mind, it still needs a lot of work: model tweaking, textures, a big-time poly reduction, and rigging. Someday I'll finish it. Maybe. Oh right, I still should post a link. Try this out.

Yeah, I know it's not great, but you're lucky to get that considering what I've been through recently. In fact, the only reason I have time to update is because I'm pulling another all-nighter. I have a major graphics program due tommorrow and I haven't started yet, but this time It's for a slew of valid reasons; not just the fact that I didn't want to do it, as it usually is. One of the reasons might have to do with the fact that I have 3 english classes at once right now, and english is my natural enemy.

Well, enough whining. I'm going to let you all off on that. Enjoy your fridays, and if you are a cool guy, enjoy the State UNC game; I know we will.

Personal Record

By Mike Daly
September 28th, 2003

We had a lot of fun this weekend, those of us, at least, who could comprehend their surroundings (more on that later). For those of you who live with their heads stuck in a gopher hole, the NC State vs. Chapel Hill football game was saturday. If the condition for you not knowing that was true, you must also not have known that NC State STOMPED them.

Just thought I'd point that out.

Fortunately, for those of you who were not able to attend the great event, we have captured some pictures. Just as proof here is all of us in order, Wastrel, Wesley, and Willow. Here is the grand stadium itself, filled with over fifty three thousand fans. The energy of an event like this really is mind-boggling sometimes. If you want to see more of the game's pictures (and with properly sized windows), you can check them out in the 'miscellaneous' gallery.

Now, to touch on the title, and the refrence earlier to dimmed consciousness, I'd like to point out a personal record I recently achieved. As any regular reader is familiar with, I have a problem with going to bed on time (tonight being no exception: 3:00am currently). You also may have noticed me complaining about this past week while it was still going on. Yeah, I had a lot of stuff to do last week. More than I could handle in a normal day, that's why I invented the "Super-Day": my solution to the limiting daily cycle of toil before sleep.

The Super Day:

The Super Day is a magical time where you have an extra 30% of your time free because you forgo a useless, draining, mindless activity. During the Super Day you can do things like go to class all day twice, go to a football game, write a research paper from scratch, not finish an opengl program from scratch, play a game of Age of Mythology, and inadvertantly pick your nose about 2,301 times. Sounds great, huh? I wish I had those every day. Oh yeah, before I forget, there is another detail about the day I forgot to mention: IT'S 63 HOURS LONG!

Yep, that's what my selfish pursuit of academics and entertainment won me this week, a personal record for awaken-ness. I should hire someone to kick me in the nuts if I ever do this again, but since I don't have that much money, I guess I'll just have to do it again sometime before I graduate.

Enough babble, I have a lot of sleep to catch up on (grumble).

The eternal battle

By Mike Daly
September 30th, 2003

I am constatly locked with myself in an eternal debate. On the one hand, I wish to update this site regularly so that the few people who visit the site have at least something new to read when they get bored of their salary jobs each day at about 9 o'clock am. On the other hand, if I am not able to do something in the span of two days that is worthy of significant note, my posts will become repetetive and whiney, with nothing interesting to them. That, and the fact that Wayne beats me horribly every time I do it.

Of course, in a utopian world, I could generate cool content and have something to talk about every update. But as we all know, this is as impossible as having your cake and eating it too. So, what should I do in response to this dillemma?

I can't really think of a broad, continuing solution, but for now, I'm just going to say this: Everyone in Raleigh must come to the guest speakers on campus tonight! The Game Developer's Club is hosting 3 guest speakers from a local game middleware company (NDL), and we need a really good turnout. It's in the witherspoon cinema, details here.

I'm exploring so many new possibilities for the game developers club recently, and I'm extremely excited about it. I wish I could tell you all, but that would bore you, and I'd rather wait until we have the events set in stone.

That's all. Begone.
